Obiadujac z Hajle Gebre Syllasje/Lunching with Haile Gebre Sellasie

Zostalam zaproszona na lunch do domu Hajle. Lunch byl dla osob, ktore w ramach kamapanii “I’m running for a child” przekazaly ponad 3000 byrow ( 300 USD) dla 4 organizacji zajmujacych sie dziecmi. Jako ze Our Father’s Kitchen jest jedna z tych organizacji i jako ze Jassyr, czyli moj szef nie mog isc to wyslal mnie.

No to sie odstroilam i poszlam. Hajle mieszka w lepszej dzielnicy Addis, na wzgorzu, gdzie chaty wygladaja jak w Beverly Hills. I tak tez wyglada dom Hajle. No moze przesadzam, bo w sumie nigdy nie bylam w Beverly Hills.

Sa 3 gabloty z medalami, nagrodami, dyplomami. 2 salony, 2 telewizory, 2 pietra. Ogrod. Cudownie, aczkolwiek dla mnie zbyt duzy przepych.

Sam Hajle i jego rodzina to skromni, ciepli, hojni i zabawni ludzie. W ogole nie czuje sie ze to bogacze. Nie maja w sobie ani krzty zarozumialstwa i poczucia wyzszosci. Hajle biegal od goscia do goscia w dresikach, tak jakby wlasnie z treningu wrocil, dbal zeby nikomu niczego nie zabraklo, zartowal, usmiechal sie, gral na organach elektrycznych. Przy podziekowaniach dla tych, ktorzy dali pieniadze powiedzial, ze wierzy w to, ze jesli ty robisz cos dobrego dla innych to nie oczekuj natychmiastowych korzysci. Wystarczy ze Bog widzi to co robisz i On w przyszlosci zrobi cos dla ciebie.

I ta wiara kaze mu od 7 lat organizowac Great Ethiopian Run, ksztalcic mlodych zdolnych a bez pieniedzy w biegach i caly czas dzialac na rzecz biedniejszych i ludzi bez szans.

I tak to zakochalam sie w Hajle Gebre Syllasje.

Gdyby tylko wiecej bogatych ludzi w Etiopii dzielielo sie tym co ma, albo nie nazywajmy tego dawaniem, tylko inwestowaniem, to mysle, ze kraj mialby duza szanse na wyjscie z ostatnioj 10tki najbiedniejszych krajow swiata.

No niestety, wiekszosc bogatych ludzi jak ma kase to kupuje wypasione samochody, jak np. Hummer czy stawia palace, czy wydaje na salony pieknosci. Nie twierdze, ze to powinno byc zakazane i prawa do tego nie maja, ale umiarkowanie w zyciu jest potrzebne. Wszyscy w imie ojca i syna, a nie pamietaja o 7 grzechach glownych czy 10 przykazaniach. Nie zastanawiaja sie tez, komu daja pieniadze na ulicy. Nie zadaja sobie pytania, czy dziewczyna, ktora zebrze o 3 w nocy z dzieckiem na ramieniu jest naprawde matka tego dziecka, czy tylko “wypozycza” je do pracy? No bo ktora matka, dobra matka, lazilaby dzien w dzien o 3 w nocy z obudzonym, nieubranym dzieckiem po klubem gdzie przewala sie kupa pijanych ludzi i ryczy muzyka?

Nie wiem skad taka dygresja, ale to chyba zlosc na Etiopczykow, co maja, a nie daja, albo co daja grosze i zebrakow – cwaniakow – lieba sprawila, ze musialam sie uzewnetrznic.

Daria co dawala, ale przejrzala na oczy i teraz daje inaczej. J

I was invited for a lunch to Haile Gebre Sellasie’s house. Lunch was for the people who gave over 3000 birr ( 300 USD) for a campaign “I’m running for a child” where 4 charity organizations took part. As Our Father’s Kitchen was one of them and as Yasser – my boss couldn’t go, he sent me as his representative.

So I dressed up and went.

Haile lives in the better district of Addis, on the hill, above Top View Restaurant, where most of the houses look like those in Beverly Hills. And so is the Haile’s house. Well.. maybe I exaggerate, as I have never been to Beverly Hills J

Hajle’s house is big, 2 stores, 2 TV sets in the living rooms, 3 shlefs full of medals and praizes.

Haile himself and his family are modest, warm, generous and funny people. One can not feel at all they are rich people. They don’t show off, ther is no “poshness” in their behaviour.

Haile was running among the guest, paying attention to the glasses to be filled in, plates to be full and people to feel cool. He was wearing sport wear, just like he came straight from the training, to feel comfortable. While thanking people who donated money he said that he believes that if you are doing something good, don’t expect any profits right away. He beleieves that the God is watching and after some time He will do something good for him also.

And this faith tells him to organize every year Great Ethiopian Run, educate young, gifted runners without money and all the time support ones without chances, poorer. And so I fell in love with Hail Gebre Sellasie. J

If only more rich people were like him in Ethiopia I guess this country would have a chance to leave the ranks of ten least developed countries. If people shared more of their money, or maybe not shared but invest it in some good stuff and not in buying cars to show off like for example Hummer or everyday visit in the most expensive beauty salon/ I’m not saying it’s wrong and they don’t have the right to do it, it’s just about moderation. (?) Most of the people here are like “in the name of God and the Son” and so on but at the same time they tend to forget about small little things and Decalogue or 7 main sins.

At the same time they give the money to the beggars in the streets without even thinking if the beggar is not fooling them, if this child in the hands of the young girl at 3 am in the morning is hers or is it borrowed only for the “business”.

I don’t know where did it came from this digression but I think I’m angry at Ethiopians and these beggars – liars – lieba made my opinions surfaced.

Toyota 2008 Great Ethiopian Run, jak donosi Capital był wielkim sukcesem. Pomimo natrętnych i poważnych ostrzeżeń o możliwościach ataków terrorystycznych i zakłóceniach porządku organizatorom udało się w tym roku stworzyć nie tylko dobry, ale chyba najlepszy do tej pory bieg. Great Ethiopian Run powstał z inicjatywy Hajle Gebre Sellasje. Według organizatorów w tegorocznym biegu udział wzięło 32 000 osób zarejestrowanych plus 3000 miejsc zarezerwowanych było dla dzieci poprzez organizację AIMS promującą bieg dla dzieci z krajów rozwijających się. Dodatkowo w tłumie biegnących widziało się setki osób, które nie zarejestrowały się wcześniej. 10 kilometrowy bieg w kategorii mężczyzn wygrał Cziale Dekassa z czasem 28.55. Wśród kobiet najszybsza była Ude Ajaleu z czasem 33.31. W biegu partycypowały również znakomitości z całego świata. Była Karolina Luft, siedmioboistka, Mo Farah, europejski srebrny medalista na 500 metrów. Biegło również kilku biegaczy z Kenii.

Pierwszy bieg odbyl sie w 2001. Pomysl sciagnieto z Great North Run z Anglii.

 

 

Toyota 2008 Great Ethiopian Run was a big success, as Capital says.

Great Ethiopian Run was founded in 2001. The idea for the Great Ethiopian Run came from the organisers of the Great North Run in England. The aims of the first run were to contribute to the betterment of life in Ethiopia by giving the public opportunity to participate in the country’snational sport, serving as a platform for publicising important health messages, in particular AIDS prevention messages and ntributing to much-needed imaging building for the country.

Great Ethiopian Run is led by Haile Gebrselassie, who oversees a small
team of office staff based in one of Haile’s new high-rise office
buildings in Addis Ababa. The office team is managed by Richard Nerurkar
who is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the organisation.
The General Manager reports to the Board which is chaired by Haile.

In addition to the international 10km race Great Ethiopian Run also
stages an annual women’s run in Addis Ababa, an annual relay for
organizations on the new Ring Road, an annual race for schoolchildren in
Addis Ababa at the time of Europe Day, and many other big regional
competitions each year which typically publicise health and social
messages.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia- Oromiya Prisons club runner Chala Dechasa was a surprise winner of the men’s race at the 2008 TOYOTA Great Ethiopian Run, an international 10km road race held in Addis Ababa on Sunday (23).Defending champion Wude Ayalew won a competitive women’s contest as the race which debuted eight years ago saw over 32,000 participants take part.

The mass participation race saw 32,000 runners take part this year. But for race director, co-founder, and of course World Marathon record holder Haile Gebrselassie, it was another special race.

“I am proud of the standard the race has achieved,” he said. “The crowd control has gotten better down the year and again today, the police did an excellent job.  I am very happy.”

But could Gebrselassie’s family also be following his lead on the athletic front?

On Saturday, all of his four children took part in the AIMS Series Children Series and finished the race. On Sunday, his wife Alem Tilahun, who is often credited for Haile’s success on the business front, also took part in the mass participation race finishing the 10km in 63 minutes, a time good enough to get her in the first 1000 finishers.

Teddy Afro skazany/ Teddy Afro found guilty

Tewodros Kassahun aka Teddy Afro został wczoraj skazany na 6 lat wiezienia i kare grzywny w wysokości 18 000 Byrów ( 1800 USD). Teddy został uznany winnym 3 zarzutów: zabicia bezdomnego, porzucenia go bez udzielenia pomocy i jazde bez prawa jazdy. Teddiego wsadzili do wiezienia w kwietniu b.r. Od tego czasu wszystkie jego procesy były odraczane. Wczesniej zatrzymano go w listopadzie 2006 po czym wypuszczono za kaucja w wysokości 50 000 Byrów.

Teddi to najbardziej popularny śpiewak w Etiopii. Karierę zaczał w 2001 i od tego czasu wydal 3 albumy. Ludzie go tutaj kochaja, ale nie rzad. A szczególnie pan premier. Piosenki teddiego sa ironiczne I ludziom wladzy sie to nie podoba. Ten kto wierzy troche w spiskowa teorie dziejow i obserwuje kwitnaca w Etiopii demokracje może pomyśleć ze cala ta akcja z potraceniem mogla być prowokacja. Wszyscy niemal prowadza tutaj po wypiciu baaardzo dużej ilości alkoholu i zdarza się bardzo często zabicie przez potracenie kogos, kto spi na ulicy, dosłownie lezy na ulicy. I wielu ludzi nie dostaje za to 6 lat.

Tedi ifeta! – Uwolnijcie Teddiego!

 

Singer Tewodros Kassahun vel Teddy Afro was sentenced yesterday to a six-year jail term and 18 000 Birr ( 1800 USD) fine after He was fund guilty on three counts of killing a homeless and abandoning him in need of aid and driving without license. Teddy Afro was put in jail in April 2008. Till this time the trial was always postponed. Prior to being taken into custody he was detained in November 2006 and released on 50 000 Birr bail.

Teddy is the most popular singer in Ethiopia. He has been singing from 2001 and has made 3 albums since. People love him, but not the government. Especially the prime minister. His songs are ironic and power people don’t like it. One who watches developing democracy in Ethiopia might think that this driving over homeless might have been a provocation. People here drink a lot and drive and they are killing people who lie on the streets, literally lie on the streets, and they don’t get 6 years for that.
